CONCEPT DRAWING
This project was created for a family who relocated to their forever home, uniquely situated along a “deer highway.” The property presented several challenges, including a high mosquito population and frequent deer traffic. To address the mosquitoes, the clients envisioned a dragonfly pond, and we designed it as an ideal habitat to naturally attract dragonflies and reduce pests.
Deer movement required careful plant selection, ensuring the landscaping could thrive despite frequent visits from wildlife. The front of the property faces a busy road and is screened by a berm, which we transformed into a woodland-inspired landscape with naturalistic plantings and strategically placed boulders, echoing the surrounding forests.
Upon entering the property, the driveway lacked clear cues for parking or approach. To enhance the arrival experience, we introduced a rock garden and paved area, guiding traffic while creating a playful, inviting entry sequence. The result is a home that balances ecological sensitivity, visual appeal, and functional design, harmonizing with both nature and family life.

A carefully selected palette of plants that discourages deer browsing, ensuring long-lasting, low-maintenance landscapes.
Strategically planted vegetation in water-harvesting pockets along berms, maximizing moisture retention and supporting resilient, healthy growth.
New paving guides visitors from the parking area to the front entrance with an intuitive, playful, and organic flow, resolving previous navigation confusion.
